Carlton "Hutch" Hutchinson was born in Akron, NY. He graduated from Akron High School in 1940 and attended Bowling Green State University. before enlisting in the US Navy in December of 1942. Following officers training, as an ensign, he served aboard the destroyer USS Gleaves in the Pacific and later was assigned to the USS Hickox. In 1947 he earned his BS degree in math and industrial arts and his Masters degree in 1951 from BGSU. He earned his Education Specialist degree in 1969 at Eastern Michigan University. He was a lifelong educator and served in the following capacities: teacher and coach in Grand Rapids, OH; superintendent of Jackson Twp. Schools, OH; superintendent of Savannah Clear Creek Butler Schools, OH; principal of Madison High School, OH (where he and staff built a new high school); superintendent of Dexter Schools, MI; and principal of Fairplain Jr. High in Benton Harbor, MI. Later he returned to his first love of teaching math, until he retired from full time teaching in 1984. He then taught math in the Adult Education program for 12 years in Benton Harbor until his full retirement in 1996 at age 73, making a total of 49 years devoted to education. He starred in The Wednesday Morning Breakfast Club in 2013.
